Marotta Watches The "uphill" Of The Italian World Cup, But

The president of Beppe Marotta feels that Italy is “growing in all games” but faces “uphill” for World Cup qualifying, and Simone Inzagi’s contract extension is “format.”

The director of Nerazzurri spoke to Radio Anch’io Lo Sport to discuss the latest issues with Inter with the Italian national team.

Italy has been eliminated from the Nations League quarterfinals. That means they are placed in a slightly tricky World Cup qualifying group alongside Norway in Arling Haaland.

“An uphill from the World Cup? I’d say that, but these are all good experiences,” Marotta said through Inter’s official website.

“This Italian side is very young and inexperienced, but has a lot of quality. Spalletti’s work will be further tested in June when he takes a more important test for this youthful team that is growing all the games.”

Inter is the only Serie A club still involved in three competitions.

“It’s normal that there is this kind of tension and pressure as Inter sets a great standard in history and achieves the incredible feats we strive to follow,” President Inter said.

“It’s part of the game, but we have to be ambitious from a sporting perspective. We need to keep it like we do now for the various competitions we play.”

Inzagi plans to sign a new contract until 2028 in the coming months.

“We are very pleased with Inzagi. His contract renewal is formal,” confirmed Marotta.

“He has worked very well over the years and he is a role model for the whole club from a technical standpoint. He is one of the best managers around and also has the advantage of being a once-great footballer.

Finally, Marotta talked about Inter’s attack division. Recent reports in Italy suggest that Nerazuri will sign a new centre forward next summer.

“Looking at our statistics, there’s the most prolific offense in the league, so there’s no problem there,” he pointed out.

“Maybe we couldn’t score in one match. We found the back of the net in everything else. I don’t think there’s a problem. The Inzagi setup works well as a team ready to move forward.

“We already have a great partnership ahead of time. I think Lautaro and Salam are the best in Italy and the best in Europe. It’s clear that we’re planning. We organize it deeply with Asilio and Baccin, and we’re going to keep in mind what the market has to offer, and create the best team.
